I don’t like to buy juices to my nearly three-year-old son, because almost every one of them is full of sugar, various concentrates and everything sounds everything but healthy. But, on their declarations, there are only words of praise, which would make you think that there is something useful for your child, or you, if you are a juice lover. For that reason, I tried to make him something that anybody who hasn’t cooked anything in his life can do.

As you can figure it out from the title, it’s about the compote. The Bosnian term for homemade fruit juice, that comes the best at the end of the meal, mostly lunch. There are not exact amounts of fruits that go inside of it, so, you can put as much as you have, like a cup of each. In the bowl of compote that you can see at the photo I put: one large fresh apple (peeled and cut into bigger dice), one large quince, a handful of raspberries (frozen), a hand of dried pears (if you do not have dried ones, you can use fresh), a hand of dried apricots, a few cloves, all covered by two litres of water. Let it cook for about 20 minutes, add a few teaspoons of sugar or some other sweetener (honey is not recommended, as it loses its healing abilites at high temperature) and let it cook for another ten minutes at low temperature. Serve cool.
